I recently read a great book by Dr. Bob Rotella. In that book, he talks about how to follow a process instead of worrying about the outcome when you are playing golf.
These are his words, not mine. Keep these thoughts in mind the next time you play golf, and let me know if they improve your game. These thoughts made an incredible difference in my game.
1. I will trust myself and my swing on every shot.
2. I will execute my pre-shot routine on every shot. (If you do not have one, then develop one.)
3. I will stay in the present moment. I will focus on each shot as it comes, and that will be the only shot I care about. When the round is over, I will see how I did.
4. I will refuse to let anything that happens on the golf course today upset or bother me.
5. I will accept bad breaks and mistakes and be tough in adversity.
6. I am going to be in a good mood and in a great state of mind for the entire round today. I will enjoy playing.
7. I will trust my instincts and be decisive and committed on every shot.
8. I will get more loose and freer as the round goes on; resisting the urge to get tighter, more careful, and more doubtful.
9. I will love my wedge and my putter today.
10. I will let the ball go to my target on every shot.
11. I will maintain a constant level of intensity on every shot.
12. I will remember the good shots and forget the bad shots.
The book has a lot more insight in it so I encourage you to read or listen to it. You can listen to it on YouTube or you can buy it on Amazon.
